The birthday blanket

(or quilt but I don't like the quilt look so it's a blanket with minimal quilting) I'm on day 2 of making my big girl her personalized blanket...and I AM SO EXCITED so far in how it's turning out that I'd love to just make some coffee and stay up doing the next step...BUT it's either being 32, weary, can't stay up like I used to or it's simply knowing 3 cute munchkins will be awake about 7a.m....ok, honestly, it's both! So I spent all yesterday figuring dimensions for the squares, how many I needed, how large my blanket would be and sewing the squares together to make strips to border the front panel. That's all....in a days work! Today, making sure my head calculation for the front inner panel was right before cutting....THEN I got another idea...let's add batting behind my patchwork border! Then I stitched those strips onto the panel, VIOLA! I'm happy! Not like I need ANOTHER project but this one will have to be done, I'm so

A new 'chapter' to bloggin

Become is where I will post about Becoming a better you. I'm not preaching here, that's my husbands job!!! I like to find things that are better for us from the inside out and that very well may include some Bible (because after all, we become greater Christians when we're in the Word) but I've been on the hunt for hair products that don't have lethal chemicals in them! So, when I find what I think is the best, I'll let you know. Btw, this is my first launch at creating new pages to my blog, I have no idea what I'm getting myself into...I do know that I can't stand the font selection. Rrgh!

No sleep

I lay in bed exhausted, the children are finally asleep, the kitchen's clean (thank you Love) and I spritz the pillow with lavendar sleep mist and close my eyes.....then I hear 'COCKADOODLE DO'...NO, I don't live on a farm or anywhere near.  My husband went to sleep before his head hit the pillow, the house is dark and quiet.  This is when the creative side of my brain wakes up....pretty much every night, even more so when I have a project to work on (like my daughter's birthday coming up) and it's just so bad that I might as well get up, grab some coffee and go to work!  BUT, I know the children will wake up and I can't sleep in...so I have this tug of war with my brain, notepad beside my bed and toss and turn, jot something else down, close my eyes again, grab the Ipad to 'quickly' look up something....RRRGH! (Sleep mist doesn't get me to sleep...it just smells really good!) I'll be busy this week hoping to make my dinosaur girl have

2011 Goals

Well, after I purchased my sewing machine 2.5 years ago and reflected on all the things I'd made in that first year, I was pretty surprised at myself!  It's exciting to see all the things I've done and what's even more exciting is knowing all the things I can do just by trying! So for Christmas, my dear sweet thoughtful husband bought me one super large cutting mat so I don't turn our dining table into chips for the fireplace, nice new scissors, an Amy Butler gumdrop pillow pattern, Stitch magazine and more!   My goal???   (Wow, this is going to be fun) SEWING: Birthday Blanket for big girl Gumdrop pillow (or 2, or 3) Pillow cushions for the children's chairs Garment Bags Girls slippers Nephew a Dream on the Go pillow Circles table runner Myself a skirt or two the girls a dress (maybe a few) my handsome boy a little tie NON SEWING: Mod Podge wall art for our room Paint a few toy boxes and make cushions for the top Cover the girls headboard AND all of the sp

The Dining Room Chairs

I Corinthians 12:12-31 (Yes, I'm using my chairs as an illustration) You may not like a print, 2 prints together may not work great together either, but all together....IIIII think (it's perfect) , they all work together beautifully (just simple fun and whimsical)  Do they look shiny?  Really?  I'm smart...I have 3 children and did NOT want stains on this pretty fabric...SOOO, I shopped for months on laminated cottons (couldn't settle on just one print), oilcloths (not enough selections) so I did some homework and chose to iron-on vinyl before upholstering the chairs!   SMAAART Musical chairs anyone?
